Дебютный альбом немецкой группы Axxis из Дортмунда. Исполняют ребята классический хард-рок с лёгкими, но драйвовыми гитарными пассажами, плотными ударными, и высоким, чистым и оригинальным вокалом Бернарда Вейса. Сейчас команда остаётся одной из самых влиятельных в хард-н-хэви. Музыка обладает своим узнаваемым и оригинальным стилем, что проявляется и в фирменных мелодиях, и в интересном, индивидуальном вокале. Альбом качественно записан, чётко, профессионально и выверено. Тексты песен типично хардового характера, с некоторыми мрачными и мистическими повествованиями, как заглавная скоростная «Kingdom of the Night», тяжелая баллада «Tears of the Trees». Есть поистине гениальные вещи — открывающая среднетемповая «Living in a World» с прекрасными акустическими проигрышами, к тому же, ставшая гимном этой группы, замечательный энергичный боевик «Never Say Never», мистичная «The Moon», традиционная «Just One Night». Остальной материал, конечно, выглядит куда попроще, но негатива не вызывает. Спустя годы альбом «Kingdom of the Night» остаётся одним из лучших у Axxis хард-рокового периода. |

В конце 80-х Axxis умудрились заработать неплохую популярность благодаря этому альбому. Здесь представлена любопытная смесь пауэр-метала с хард-роком, что-то подобное я слышал у другой немецкой группы Pink Cream 69. Возможно, это в немалой степени способствовало успеху группы, но и сам альбом получился отличным. Мелодик-метал Аксиса несколько отличается от мелодик-метала Bonfire или Victory за счет вышеназванных пауэровских элементов и, конечно же, высокого помпезного вокала Бернарда Вайса, который опять-таки идеально подошел бы к европейскому мелодик-пауэру а-ля Helloween или Gamma Ray. Порадовали прекрасное качество звука и отличное владение инструментами музыкантов. И мелодически «Kingdom of the Night» получился сильным, цельным творением, хотя и не лишенным мелких огрехов (как правильно отметил предыдущий рецензент), в виде простоватости некоторых песен, которые на фоне настоящих хитов, сделавших группу звездами, смотрятся бледно. Лучшая песня здесь - тяжелая баллада «Tears of the Trees», впечатляющими получились и среднетемповые номера: гимн «Living in the World», «Never Say Never» с пауэр-металической зажигательной мелодикой и плотными ритмами, и динамичный хард-н-хэви номер «Just One Night», гитарными риффами и темпом напоминающий об английских классиках рока Judas Priest и, отчасти, своих же соотечественниках Bonfire. Запомнились и скоростные пауэровские боевики «Kingdom of the Night» и «The Moon», а также развеселая «Love is Like an Ocean». Остальные песни держат уровень, но большее, чем на «затыкателей дыр» в альбомном времени, они не тянут. Однако и впечатления в целом не портят. Несомненно, это классическая работа, один из последних успехов в немецком хард-н-хэви в 80-е годы. 9 баллов ставлю из-за личных симпатий к самому жанру и этой пластинке, хотя объективно было бы вернее выставить «восьмерку». Тем не менее, «Kingdom of the Night» - очень сильный, хоть и не идеальный альбом. |
